The Pahiatua sock sale will be held on Monday, March 30, instead of Tuesday, in order to avoid clashing- with the Pahiatua race meeting which is to be held on the Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. In connection with the recent Butterfly Pair run by the Pahiatua Methodist Church on Tuesday, Mrs E. Etz acted as judge for two of the competitions. In the sponge cake competition Miss Thora Gardner gained a prize, while for the decorated vase Mesdames A. Willis and C. M. Roberts were first and second respectively. At the conclusion of the fair, Mr W. A. Cittadini auctioned a quantity of goods that had been left over. The gross takings were £SO. Tho plate-glass window in the Power Board’s premises in Main street was broken recently and due to the presence of a stone on tho footpath the police were not long in tracing the lad that threw it although in the circumstances revealed there was some provacation for the throwing of the stone. It appears that another lad had taken his bicycle from him and thus annoyed him into taking the steps he did never for a moment thinking the missle thrown would result in the damage mentioned. The question of responsibility has not yet been decided and may cost his parents the large sum of £lO for replacement. Parents should cite this case to their children as a warning not to throw stones under any circumstances as the action has an unhappy knack of causing not only material damage but often serious bodily injury to some unfortunate child.
