The Soviet has strongly protested to the Japanese Government following a serious new frontier incident between Japanese and Soviet soldiers resulting in a number being killed and wounded on both sides. The Soviet alleges that firing was begun by a Japanese detachment which crossed the border near Hunchun and attacked the Soviet frontier guards who returned the fire. The Japanese retired leaving two dead but later returned with ma-chine-guns and firing continued for several hours imtil the Japanese were finally driven back into Manchukuo. The Soviet is demanding immediate investigation, the punishment of the guilty and compensation for the families of the dead Russians.
