Trailer Amok Causes Serious Accident

COLLISION WITH PASSING MOTOR

I’ato seems to have played a hand in a motor accident which happened shortly after mid-day yesterday and resulted in Mrs Florence Beuuelt, of Kauwliata, receiving such serious head injuries that she now lies in a private hospital in a serious condition. Mr W. Dustin, of Palmerston North, was driving out of the city along Kangitikci line, dragging a trailer behind his car. Mrs Bennett was a passenger in another car being driven into town by Mrs E. E. Firth, of Camiron’s line. As the two vehicles were about to pass, the right-hand wheel of the trailer collapsed, causing the draw bolt to snap. The trailer immediately shot out across the road and mounted the hear mudguard of -Mrs Firth’s car, and Mrs Bennett, who happened to be sitting on that side ot ! the rear scat, received the full force of the impact. She was rendered unconscious and conveyed immediately to hospital for an operation.
