George O’Brien in Western Thrills

“WHISPERING SMITH SPEAKS” IS ACTION-PACKED

(.State: Screening To-day.)

When a rich man’s son sets out to prove that he is the match of his father, things are bound to happen, and they do in the thrilling George O’Brien picture, “Whispering Smith Speaks.” It is a red-blooded, actionfilled story of railroading, starring O’Brien, with Frank Shenaan as his father, Irene Ware as his romantic leading lady and Kenneth Thomson as his rival.

O’Brien leaves the office of his father, a railroad magnate, to learn something about steel rails himself, and works his way about the country. Finding a dilapidated old railroad with lovely Irene Ware in charge, O’Brien is intrigued and decides to wait around for developments.

Finally O’Brien uncovers a conspiracy to defraud Miss Ware of valuable ore-bearing lands in which his own father is involved. A hair-raising, perilous dash to Detroit in a switch engine, brings O’Brien face to face with his father. From the old magnate, O’Brien gets a grudging admission that he has been outsmarted and blessings for his union with Miss Ware. in adition to the leading players, this Fox film features Spencer Charters and Vie Potel, who are outstanding in comedy roles. Adapted from the famous novel by Frank H. Spearman, “Whispering Smith Speaks” was directed by David Howard.
