HAWKE CUR MATCHES ! OVER FOR SEASON

Mr.’ A. M. Ongley presided at last evening’s meeting of tho Manawatu Cricket Executive. Others present were Messrs. G. Griggs, E. J Werry, F. Hubbard, E. Weir, J. R. Hardie, N. Gallichan, K. G. Biss, G. Dawick and R. A. Brace (secretary.) An apology was received from Mr. W. H. Wilson. Correspondence B. Thorburn and R. Jones were registered at the request of the Combined Services Club. D. O’Brien at the request of United, was registered as a Wednesday player. A request was received from the Dannevirke sub-association for a game against the Wednesday representatives, but in view of the interrupted season and the fact that tho competition is not completed, it was decided to write regretting ’-.ability to arrange the match with Dannevirke. The Wellington Cricket Association wrote to the effect that they would not be able to arrange for an Easter match with Manawatu, the Basin Reserve being not rvariable. At the request of Optimists, R. Elliot, F. Spelman and B. Zaloum were registered. In Tegard to a complaint from Optimists, it was resolved to reply that the player mentioned in their letter had been registered a Wednesday player, there being no restrictions as to bowling. The secretary of tho New Zealand Cricket Council forwarded advice that Manawatu, if victorious in their game against Rangitikei. would not be required to defend the Hawke Cup again this season. Loss on M.C.C. Match Reporting on the M.C.C.-Manawatu match, tho secretary stated that the total expenses, including the guarantee of £125, amounted to. £l°7 Os 9d. Against this tho receipts on the first and only day of the match amounted to £sl 4s, leaving a total loss of £145 16s 9d. The Manawatu Association has requested a refund of the guarantee (£125) but tho matter has not yet been considered by the New Zealand Cricket Council. Goldfinch and Cousins Cup Tho chairman raised the question of a Goldfinch and Cousins Cup match dur ing the current season and he considered that in order to keep faith with the donor 3of tho trophy, and with Feilding, the first defenders, he thought another challenge should be sent in. Mr. Biss suggested Manawatu should send a challenge in, giving Feilding the choice of two dates. Easter was mentioned but tho secretary wondered if it might be awkward for Feilding at that time. It was eventually decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman. Sportsground Grandstand The chairman mentioned that the City Council had called for plans for a new grandstand and he thought the association should ask the council to give the association tho opportunity of inspecting the plans before finality was reached. This was agreed to and tho secretary was instructed to get into touch with the City Council. Speaking of tho Y.M.C.A.-Palmers-ton game, which opens next Saturday and which is virtually the championship final, the chairman said it had been suggested to him that the game should be the only one on the oval and that a gate should be charged. It was pointed out that there would have to be two games on tho oval. In view of this, no action was taken. In view of the fact that the Y.M.C.A.-Old Boys game was completed in one day and High School (because of tho match with Dannevirkc High School) defaulting to Kia Toa, it was decided that the third round Junior A, High School-Old Boys and Y.M.C.A.-Kia Toa games would commence next Saturday, instead of the following week. This, of course, will be subject to the teams’ consent. At the request of Mr. Griggs, Y.M.C.A. were granted permission to take a team to Napier at Easter time. Mr. IVeir suggested an effort should be made to arrrange a junior representative game with Wanganui on Saturday, April 4, or failing that, at Easter. The secretary was instructed to communicate with Wanganui.
