BUNNYTIiORPB. The annual meeting was. held on Wednesday when there was only a fair attendance of. members. 'The,' balancesheet showed quite a satisfactory credit balance. In her report tho president thanked Mrs. Guard for donating her scroll of the “Aspirations” and for her work entailed in giving the monthly garden talk, Mr. Abraham for kindly helping by printing the institute programmes, th'e flower circle members who made tho room gay on meeting days, Mrs. Nix for, tho wreaths • that she always willingly provides,. Mrs. Gore for tho donation of a flne needle tray for competition, Mrs. B. Donald donating soft drinks at the Christmas tree, Mrs. Itomberg donation of- chocolates for birthday evening, Mrs. Burrell for the making of birthday .cake, Mrs. Wiggins for icing same, Mr. Jackson as auditor, Miss L. Gore for Home and Country, Mrs. Pedersen, Miss Donald, Miss Thomas for competitions and bring and buy stall. She also thanked tho retiring committee for their willing response at all times, and all those who helped to make the meetings a success. Tho following committee was then elected: —Misses Wood, Burrell, Donald, Mosdames Jackson, Donald, Clements, Bulmcr, Nix, Guard, Williamson. Mrs. Jackson was unanimously re-elected president. Mesdames Jackson and Pedersen wero elected to attend the council meeting at Palmerston North which is boing held in April. Tho competitions for next month will bo:—Juniors, pot of jam (any variety); seniors, pot of jolly (any variety). Afternoon tea was served by tho hostosses and au.cnjoyablo aftornoon was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Tho hostosses for next meeting will be Mosdames Pedersen, Abraham, Baker and Jepson.

WAITUNA WEST. Tkore was a fair attendance of members for the annual meeting held on March 32. Mrs. J. H. Williamson was in tho chair. The report and balanceshcot showed a very good year’s work had been accomplished. The following committee was elected:—Mesdames J. H. Williamson, A. 15. Shannon, Petersen, Stoko3, A. E. Pearce, E. Northcote, Stone, Misses K. England, M. Clare and J. Batchelai. Mrs. J. H. Williamson was re-elected president, Miss J. Batchelar continuing as secretary and treasurer for another year. It was decided to change tho institute flower to a scarlet singlo geranium. The leaf guessing competition was won by Mrs. A. E. Shannon. The competition for next month will be six pieces of shortbroad, and thcro will also bo a roll call entitlod “Limericks on the Institute.” Arrangements were made for tho birthday which will take place in may, tliis year boing an afternoon function. A hearty invitation is extended to all institutes to attend the birthday. The president and secretary were elected to attend the council meeting at Palmerston North in April. Mrs. A. E. Pearce extended a veryhearty vote of thanks to the president and secretary. A happy afternoon eo. eluded with the National Anthem.

ASHHURST. Tho fourth annual meeting of the Ashhurst Women’s Institute was held in the Town hall on March 10. There was a good attendance of members, though a largo number were away owing to illness, which tho district seems at prosent to be having its fair share of. Mrs Flowers, the president, avus prosent after her serious illness, and after opening the meeting, thanked all the membors for kindnesses and messages she had roceived while away. In extending a hearty welcome to the visitors, Mrs Flowers especially mentioned Miss Grant, and new mombers joining up that day, these being; Mrs Mclntyre (senior), and live junior members, Misses Bishop, Jcpson, Woodroofe, Hyndman, Wilkins. Apologies were recoi\ T ed from Mesdamcs Edmonds, Woodroofe (secretary), Hyndman and Amon, Misses Youle and Tremewnn. Tho secretary being absent, Mrs A. Currie kindly consented to take her place. The annual report disclosed a year of useful activity and the balance sheet a happy financial position. A link letter from England was read by Mrs Jones, Mrs McLaughlin agreeing to answer the same. Mrs Currie reported on the “Seods of Friendship, ” given out at last annual meeting, to be grown at Ashhurst. This Avas of the crab applo specie and expert advice had said that the members would be lucky if they grow. Unfortunately, it refused to have anything to do with New Zealand soil or people. Speaking on the year’s work, Mrs Flowers said wo had a membership of 72 and for the 10 meetings held, an average of 50 membors had attended. The points prizes for the year wore donated by Mcsdamos Maulc, Woodroofo and Brown in tho senior class and resulted: Mrs Currie 1, with 33 points out of a possible 44; Mrs Hyndman 2, 22; Mrs Havell 3, 16. In tho junior class, Misses Dobson and Muldook were equal first Avith 33 points and Miss Youle third with 17 points, winning the prizes presented by Mrs Currie, Mrs Muldrock and Mrs Flowers, Mrs Paton thanked Mrs Flowers and the retiring committee for the excellent work done in the, past year and said it was owing to them that the institute had grown and prospered. There being no need for a ballot, tho following are the committee:—Mesdames Amon, Bristow, Brewer, Currie, Evans, Flowers, Findlay, B. Fairliss, Kerrigan, McLaughlin, Murphy, Misses Grammer, Harris and Wilkins. Mrs Flowers was unanimous•ly re-elected president for the third time. - Miss Grant gave a very interesting talk on procedure and told of interesting experiences while on institute business. Mrs Flowers presented- Miss Grant- with a bouquet-from- the-com-mittee and thanked, her for her lecture. Afternoon tea was then sorved by the hostesses. The competition for' next month in both senior and junior classes will bo for the best use made of one

yard of Britway, with Is allowed lor trimmings or extras. The hostesses for next month will bo Mesdames Gaisford, Harper, Jepson, McDonnell and McLaughlin. •. v - "... KOPTJTAEOA. The annual meeting was held recently, there being a fair attendance of members. The president, Mrs Best, occupied the chair and extended a welcome Jo all. Tho reports of the secretary and treasurer were Tead and adopted and these showed that the year had been a most successful one for the institute. As only the' necessary ‘ number of nominations for 1 the committeo were received, an oloction was not held. Officers for tho ensuing year are as follows: —President, Mrs Best (re-elect-ed) ; secretary, Mrs Hood (re-elected); treasurer, Mrs Kcrnohan; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Lancaster and Koberstein;- committee, Mesdames Heavey, Ilarfofd, Symc, Stratton, Pene, and Miss 1)1. Adin. An arts and crafts circle was formed, with Mrs Koberstein as convener. An amusing competition arranged by Mrs Lancaster, was won by Mrs Gibson and Miss P. Adin. The hostesses for the afternoon wero the outgoing committee. Tho singing of the National Anthem concluded the meeting. lIAM3JA There was a fair attendance of members at tho annual meeting of the Hamua W. 1., hold last Friday afternoon in the local hall, Mrs Hobbs presiding. A comprehensive annual . report was given by the retiring secretary-, Mrs Biddle. Before Mrs Hobbs vacated the chair she thanked her committee for the assistance given to her during tho past year, especially Mrs Biddle as secrotary. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Warner for auditing tho books. Posies were presented to tho retiring president, Mrs Hobbs, secrotary, Mrs Biddle, and vice-presidents, Mesdames W. J. Smith and Warner. The following officers and committee were eloctodfor tho ensuing year:—Mrs Hobbs, president; Miss Joy Smith, secretary; Mesdarnos W. J. Smith and Davies, vicepresidents; Mesdames White, P. Galvin, Bailey, Humphreys, R. J. Smith, and Sadler. The points prize competition for the prettiest coat-hanger was won by Mrs Davies, with Mrs White second. For Miss Joy Smith’s competition each member was asked to bring an old photograph of herself, Mrs A. McDonald proving tho winner. For the second year in succession Mrs Davies was the winner of the points prize competition, bßing presented with a beautiful crystal vase by Mrs Hobbs on behalf of tho institute. Mrs Hobbs also presented Mrs Biddle’s special prize for the most entries during theyear to Mrs White. Contributions wero received towards tho funds for sending Mrs Paterson to tho conference of the Associated Countrywomen of the World, to be held in Washington in June. The cake raffle for institute funds was won by M. Conway. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Carruthers, P. Galvin and White. CHELTENHAM The seventh annual meeting was held ou Wednesday afternoon in tho Cheltenham hall. Mrs W. G. Short (secretary) gave a comprehensive report of tho year's work, tho iinancial statement showing a satisfactory credit balance. Mrs Barltrop (convener of the garden circle) also gave a very pleasing report of the year’s doings, many gardens having been visit ed. Another report showing a successful year came from Mrs Dowrick (convener of the drama circle), Mrs Dowrick also presenting Mrs Boss (producer) with a beautiful brass tray in recognition of her kindness in the past year. For the new committeo an election was not necessary, there being the exact number required. Mrs E. E. Short was again elocted president. Final arrangements were made for a garden party to bo held at Mrs E. E. Short’s place on Tuesday, March 17; also a dance to bo held in the parish hall, Feildiug, on March 24. These proceeds are to help swell the funds for tho institute queen candidate, Miss Joan Bilim an. Membors were also asked to send their best flowers to the horticultural show for the institute stall next Friday in Feilding. MrsW. M. Webster (Palmerston North) gave a very interesting talk on “The Body Beautiful.” Next month’s meeting is to take tho form of a flower show, members being asked to give support to this. Afternoon tea was served by tho hostesses.
