At the Taranaki Croquet tournament at New Plymouth on Saturday the surprise of the day was the defeat of the New Zealand 1936 women's champion; Mrs A. Oaldow, Wellington, by Mrs McKay, Hawera, who won a three-game rubber. Mrs Caldow has also been eliminated from the women's champion- • ship, first life. She- was beaten- by Mrs Sheet, New Plymouth, who played an excellent game. Mrs Austis (Takaro) * had a further success,, beating Airs Seandrett in the womenls championship, second life, 26 —17.
