District Nurse to Remain at Kimbolton

POSITION TO BE REVIEWED IN THREE MONTHS’ TIME. - Tho Palmerston - North Hospital Board yesterday confirmed the action of its representatives at a conference held at Kimbolton with members of tho Kiwitca County Council and district residents, in agreeing that tho district nurso at present stationed there should remain at Kimbolton, tho position to be reviewed in three months’ time. Previously the board had decided to transfer tho nurso to the southern end of its district, because of lack of work offering in the Iviwitea district. Reporting in regard to the conference, the chairman (Mr. J. K. Hornblow) said it had been a pleasure to meet the Kiwitca people, and he had been surprised at the size of the district and the settlement there. It had been agreed to allow the nurse to remain there for a period of three months, the position to be reviewed at the end of that time. Ho was afraid that the board, and he himself personally, must take the blame for not giving sufficient publicity in the first place to the fact that a district nurso was stationed at Ivimbolton. It was apparent that, had more residents known of her presence in the district, her services would have been availed of more. Following tho conference, instructions had been given that the residence atwhich the nurse was boarding should be connected with the telephone. Mr. V. E. Smith said ho could not understand why the position was to be reviewed at the end of three months. It was clear that there was enough work to keep the nurse there permanently.

Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P., agreed that tho nurse’s presence at Iviwitea was justified, but said it was desirable that the position should be reviewed, as this would afford a guarantee that the district "would take an interest in her work.

The discussion closed with the carrying of a resolution thanking the Kiwitca County Council and district residents for their co-operation and the way in which they had met the board.
