French Cows Are Able to Winter In the South

PAUlS.—Profitin'; by the reduced railway rates for vacation tours in Prance, fashionable Preach cows now go south for tho winter. Prom the highlands of Savoy, which become snow covered with the approach of cold weather, 124 cows recently to ok tho train down to the Riviera—or rath er to another part of Provence not far from tho Cote d'Azur. As a rule Prench cows cannot afford winter vacations, but these aristocratic animals are from the commune of SaintAlartin-do Belleville, which is noted for its bovine stock, dairies Blaisot decided to cut winter expenses by giving the cows a vacation; friends and competitors joined in tho project, and it was finally decided to approach the railway officials and ask for a ■'bovine vacation train." Immediately tho idea was approved, and necessary arrangements made. At the present time, AI. Blaisot’s cows are enjoying the sunshine of Provence near Parpentras, in tho department of Vaucluse. Experts of the Ministry of Agri culture, are watching the experiment, and will make a report on it next spring when tho Savoyard cows return from their winter vacation in Provence.
