Sequel to Theft At Sports Meeting

THREE MONTHS’ GAOL IMPOSED A sequel to the recent incident at the Greatford sports meeting, held near Bulls, when a search had to be made for the day’s takings, which were missing, was heard before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this week.

Eric Hedley White was charged that, on February 12, at Greatford, he had stolen the sum of £39, the property of the Greatford Sports Club. He pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Bickerdike stated that the takings of the sports meeting had been stolen from the secretary’s office, but had been recovered from a creek. Accused had been passing in and out of the office all the day, but when he had taken tho bag the office had not been occupied. The bag had been recovered intact. Although accused had ■ denied the theft at first, he had later admitted taking the bag. There ■» "s one previous conviction against accused. The Magistrate remarked that it was a deliberate theft and, as it was accused’s second offence, ho would be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
