“I know of no country where the women do more work than in New Zealand,” declared Dr. Guy H. Schoefield, chief Parliamentary librarian, when addressing a travelogue to tho Palmerston North Rotary Club yesterday. He was referring to the plentitude of native labour in South Africa, which made life very much easier for the women of the white community. “They are much better off in that regard than the women of New Zealand,” he declared, “but whether they are any better for it is another matter.” “The Retort- Courteous.’’ In the course of a discussion arising out of the suggestion that tea hostesses for the Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild should be chosen from all members in alphabetical order, one member at yesterday’s meeting intimated that elderly members might evade their duties by providing a substitute. “But there are no elderly lames in the guild,” was the tactful comment of the president (Mrs. A. E. Mansford), further discussion being lost in tho spontaneous laughter that greeted the remark. 10,000 STEPS A DAY That is what the average woman takes every day, and every step takes her nearer old age. Don’t let illhealth dog your footsteps. Take a regular tot of J.D.K.Z. Gin —tho safest “spot” on earth. Ends all rheumatic and kidney troubles. It’s the genuine Holland Gin. Flasks, Pints and Quart bottles. Everywhere.
