Valedictory
ME L. G. COPE HONOURED. Mr L. G. Cope, who lias been actively associated with the United Rugby Club, first as a player and later as an executive officer, having sat on the Manawatu Rugby Union as the club’s delegate, was met at a social evening last week by a number of the club’s members in view of his departure for Christchurch where ho has. accepted a business appointment. Mr G. Peters, a member of the club’s management committee, presided, and, at a suitable juncture in the proceedings, made reference to the regret of the committee in losing a member who had actively identified himself with the fortunes of the club in bad times as well as in good. Mr Cope was a member the club could ill afford to lose, for his enthusiasm had meant much to the club and its players, while his experience as a referee had materially assisted the members on the field of play, said Mr Peters. In asking Mr Cope to accept an inscribed gold pencil as a little memento of his happy association with the United Club, Mr Peters wished the guest of the evening every success in his new sphere and asked him to convey to Mrs Cope the club’s grateful thanks for all she has done at the club’s social functions. Several other members added their tributes.
