Owing to the recent stormy weather on the West Coast of the South Island the harbour bars at the entrance to Westport and Greymouth have shallowed to an alarming degree, making the ports unworkable for shipping.
Damages amounting to £IOOO were awarded by the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) in the Supreme Court on Saturday at Napier in a reserved judgment on an action in which Patrick Joseph O’Hara, labourer, Whakatu, claimed £2500 general damages and special damages from Christiani and Neilsen (N.?.), Ltd., contractors, Wellington. The claim was in respect of injuries, including the loss of the left leg, suffered by O’Hara, when he was (. .hed by a concrete pier while working on the Wliakatu bridge construction.
