Sports at Bunnythorpe

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

After several days of very changeable weather, the morning broke beautifully fine for the jubilee meeting of the Bunnythorpe Sports ed b which was hold on the Domain on Saturday. There was a good attendance of the public and visitors from the surrounding districts. Among those present were Mr. (joboe, M.P., Mr. and Mrs. Linldater, officers from the Manawatu Sub-Centro A.A.A. and A.C.A.

. The track and grounds wero in good order ’ t the going was slow which was against fast times being recorded. There were good fields and some excellent dnirhes wero seen. The meeting was well organised and great credit is due to the chairman, Mr. A. I* 1 . McKenzie, and his committee for the efficient manner in which they carried out their duties. From the start to the finish of tho programme events were got oil with precision and the spectators were kept interested throughout the day. Colour was added by tho dancing section which included Highland dancing, jigs, hornpipe, etc. Tno starter’s gun was in the capable hands of Mr. A. O’Donnell, while the judges were:— Athletics, Messrs Maxwell, Eanson and Donald; dancing, Mr. li. Burns; baby show, Mrs. Erenstrom (Palmerston North). Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the Tennis Club, who reported big uusiness. This being the jubilee meeting, tho prize list had been considerably enlarged, fopecial jubilee medals were awarded as points prizes in tho running and cycling soctions. The ladies' events were also added, this section proving very popular, .The following were tho results: —

At the conclusion of the programme and just prior .to the presentation of the cups and medals which were presented by Mr. J. Linklater, Mr. McKenzie referred to the fact that 25 years had elapsed since the first meeting when 40 publicly spirited persons had formed the club. Some of .those men were still active on the committee and it was the duty of some of .the younger members of the community to interest .themselves in the welfare of the club and so help in assuring a continuance and improvement of athletics generally, He then called on Mr. Linklater to make the presentations. Mr. Linklater congratulated the club on its splendid jubilee meeting and the various winners of trophies. After the presentation ho called for three cheers for the committee, which were lustily given, and the compliment was returned on the call of Mr. McKenzie.
