Plunket Society Faces New Year Activities

The Palmerston North branch of the Plunket Society held the first monthly meeting for the year in the Council Chambers on Friday afternoon, Miss M. McLagan presiding. Also present were Mesdames A. Coombs (president), A. E. Mansford, N., H.. Sinclair, H. B. Free, L. H. Colliuson, W. ,M. Webster, L. . A. Ferguson, K. Garland, T. G. Rogers and M. Aitchison (lion, secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdames H. Bennett, J. Hope Johnson, A. Grigor, T. Fairbrother, G. C. Petersen and-G. S. Peren.

Miss McLagan made feeling reference to the passing of the late King George V and all present stood in silence as a mark of respect. It was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mr W. G. Black who met with a serious accident. Mrs Black is a member of . the committee.

An invitation had been received from the Foxton branch of the Plunket Society to an aftern ion tea to be given ti winners in the Plunket' Photographic Competitions and their mothers. However, none of the members was able to attend. The gross takings at the competition amounted to £76 15s.

A letter was received from the Wanganui branch of the Plunket Society conveying sincere thanks for the uonation forwarded for the Stewart Karitane Hospital.

The resignations of Mrs Findlay Wilson and Mrs ; J. H. Whyte were accepted with regret and it was decided to place on record appreciation of the valuable services rendered by these two ladies.

A repair matter in connection with the Plunket rooms was left with the secretary, Mrs Aitchison. Members unanimously agreed that a stall be held in conjunction with badge day. Nurse’s Report. The Plunket nurse (Miss C. Kearns) reported that for January, 111 visits had been paid to homes, visits to office totalling 14:17 (adults 097, babies 652, older children OS). Fifty new cases had been added to the books.

Parcels of . clothing were gratefully acknowledged from Mrs Birch, and an anonymous donor.

Four visits had been paid to Foxton, where visits to office totalled 182 (adults 89, babies 89, older children 4). New cases totalled 4.

Hales for the month for Karilac, Karil, etc., ‘ amounted to £lB 11s Id. Membership fees were received from Mrs E. Garner, os; Mrs W, Smith, ss; Mrs Gavey, ss; and donations acknowledged from Mrs J. L. W. Mac Lean. £1 10s; Mrs J. Clegg, 7s (id; together with 15s 2d accrued from the collection box, bringing the total receipts to £2l ISs 9d. The' report was duly adopted. In the report, for the previous month of December the Plunket nurse stated that 152 visits had been paid to homes, visits to office totalling 1-322 (adults 050, babies 600, older children 66). Twenty-six new cases had been added to the books.

Four visits had been paid to Foxton, where visits to office totalled 201 (adults 08, babies 00, older children 13). New cases totalled two.
