Owing to the exceptionally fine weather yesterday, the river proved a great attraction for both young and old, the several swimming pools near the bridge being favoured. Carnival park was also a popular spot. A number of families wero seen early yesterday morning wending their way in .that direction, where they spent an enjoyable day. The Ballanee and Mangatainoka Young Farmers' Club’s are holding a demonstration day at the Pahiatua showgrounds on Wednesday,. February 20, covering Southdown sheep, Jersey cows, pig management and the training and working of a sheep dog. The quarterly Squadron meeting and first annual troop re-union of the N. Squadron, Legion of Frontiersmen, was held on Friday evening when frontiersmen from Dannevirke, Palmerston North and Woodvillo were present. A large toast list was honoured and an excellent programme provided by entertainers from amongst ;the Squadron as well as visitors.
