Band Contest Starts To-day

NEW PLYMOUTH SCENE OF THIS YEAR’S EVENT Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. There has been a large influx of visitors to New Plymouth for the Dominion Bands contest which will open to-morrow and continue till. Saturday. Every hotel is fully booked and accommodation elsewhere is at a premium. Pukekura Park, with its terraced amphitheatre, will be the scene of the major .events of the contest. A number of bands arrived by special train from the south to-night. A proportion of the entrants has withdrawn mostly owing to financial difficulties. The following twelve bands will take part:— A Grade. —Cairns Citizens (Queens: land), Nelson Garrison, Port Nicholson Silver, St. Hilda Municipal, Wanganui Garrison, Timaru Municipal, and Woolston. B Grade.—Hastings Citizens, Greymouth Municipal, Wellington Boy’s Institute, Taranaki Regimental, and Waitara Municipal. The adjudicator is Mr A. Baile, of Sydney, and assistant adjudicator, Mr T. Gray, of Wellington.
