There was little alteration crossing tho top and Bacchus Marsh showed the way into the straight attended by John Charles, Monarchy, Gold Cure, Earl Colossus and Royal Papa. Happy Landing was favourite for the Autumn Handicap, but he was well boxed-in until half-way down the straight. When he did get out, however, he finished brilliantly to take the race off Queen’s Pride, who appeared to have it won. Half-way down the straight Queen’s Pride had challenged the leaders and inside the distance she had them safe. The rider of Queen’s Pride then sat up to release his whip, which had been; caught in the mane, and before he could ■ get down to it again Roy Reed had Happy Landing flat out in a brilliant burst and won by half a length. When the field had gone a furlong, the older was Hest, from Werohia, Red Rufus, Happy Landing, Queen’s Pride and Full Throttle. Hest, Red Rufus, Werohia and Queen's Pride -were the leaders into the back, but Red Rufus had charge at the six. Red Rufus and Full Throttle set the pace crossing the top, with Hest and Werohia next, then Happy Landing and Queen’s Pride. The field was bunched at the home turn and the order much the same into the straight. They were all in the picture a furlong from the post, but Queen’s Pride had hit tho front and was going like a winner, Then Happy Landing got out, and with a run of a couple of chains he settled the issue, winning brilliantly by. half a length from Queen’s Pride. Werohia. was three-quarters of a length further back and Full Throttle -was foutrh, followed by Red Rufus. The judicial committee held an. inquiry after tho race and Tattersall, the rider of Queen’s Pride, was fined £lO for careless Tiding. Easy for Mandamus

Mandamus was an oven-money favourite for the Debutant Stakes, and the brother of Severe won as ho liked. Silver River was first to break the line ahead of Toorak, The Bigot and Mandamus. They had not gone far before Mandamus had charge, and he led into the straight attended by The Bigot, Silver River, Toorak and Siegmund. Once in line for the judge Mandamus cleared out from the others and he won as he liked by four lengths from Silver River, with The Bigot two lengths further back. Toorak was fourth and Siegmund and Bengal Lancer next. Inheritance and- Bengal Lancer dwelt at the start. Count Willonyx Pays a Price

Count Willonyx wast at a good prieo in the Maharahara Handicap, but a great finishing run landed him at the post a head in front of Royal Record. Vinco was favourite, but he was beaten into third place. When the field had settled down Warehi had gone up fast to lead across the top, followed by Lorelle, Vinco, Royal Record, Soho, Confiscation and Sybil Song. Count Willonyx was next and he was 'going up. Warehi and Lorelle showed the way into the' straight with Sybil Song next, then Royal Record, Vinco and Count Willonyx. Royal Record had collared the leaders half-way down the straight and ,Vinco was challeng-

ing. Then Count Willonyx, on !; thc outer, camo with a rattle to win by a head from Royal Record. - Vinco was a length and a-half further back and Sybil Song was fourth, followed by Lorelle. and Soho, Haut Monde Finishes Well

Sir Nigel was favourite for the sprint but he was beaten into third place, the winner being Haut Monde, who recorded his first win as a threeyearold. Lavina was first to break the line following a good start, and when they had settled down Lavina and Haut Monde were the pacemakers ahead of Porotiti and Sir Nigel. There was no change crossing tho top and Lavina led into tho straight with Haut Monde in second place, then Sir Nigel and Porotiti. Sir Nigel was under pressure at the bottom of the straight but he was making no impression, and Haut Monde issued a challenge to Lavina half a furlong from the post and he won well by a length. Sir Nigel was two lengths away from Lavina and Arctic King was foudth. Illas Improves on First Day

Silver Soug, Ilias and Contact were backed in that order for the Mangapapa Handicap, and they filled the places but not as supported, Ilias winning from end to end. The early order was Ilias, from Silver Song, Contact, Golden Time and Helen Ford. Except that Contact moved up into second place, there was ,no alteration crossing the top and Ilias led for home attended by Contact, with Silver Song and Golden Time next. In the run to the judge Ilias drew away to win by three lengths. There was a good go for second, Contact beating Silver Song by half a neck. Helen Pord was fourth. Cheerful Day for the Pinish Lord Moutoa was favourite for the concluding event and he ran a good race only to be beaten into third place by Cheerful Day and Whetuma, the winner paying a good price. Peter’s Pence and Mesurina set the early paco and tho former led into the back followed by Mesurina, Lord Moutoa, Cheerful Day, Chaste and Version. Cheorful Day had charge at the live and she led across tho top and into the straight, where she was followed by Whetuma, Mesurina, Lord Moutoa, Peter’s Pence, Chaste and Version. In the run to tho judge. Cheerful . Day hung on well and she won well by half a length from Whetuma. Lord Moutoa was tw r o lengths away third and Chaste was fourth, followed by Version, Peter’s Pence and Hornpipe. Waikato Races STOREY MEMORIAL WON BY ENGE. LIGHT COMEDY’S HACK CUP.
