The Pig Market
Schedule rates for pork and bacon remain unaltered. Westfield reports indicate that bacon met a very linn sale, making lb. Pork 51d-sijd. Stores sold well. Local pig buyers interviewed this week, state that drafts are becoming greater after the seasonal lull. Bacon is not plentiful now, porkers constitute the greater part of the pigs drafted, these averaging about SOlbs. A lot of 101-120 lbs., over-weight, porker pigs are coming forward at present. This is rather a pity, with some artificial feeding these could be made into good baconers. Feed barley at 3s lOd. The health of pigs is reported to be about normal. A feature of recent killings, however, is the unusual number of pigs with abcesscs, these are generally due to disordered blood. Filth conduces to this trouble. Other pig ailments and troubles are no worse, if not less than usually experienced, although still far worse than should be.
