A FAMED ATHLETE
ISSUES EIGHT CHALLENGES SEPARATE KINDS OF SPORT. (By, Air Mail) Twenty-three-years-old Flying Officer B. Broomhall, who lives at Worthing, Sussex, -is an athlete famed in two continents, says the Sunday Despatch. Recently he issued a challenge to meet anyone in eight kinds of races, each over 50 miles, the whole contest to be completed within 42 hours. There were no takers. But just to show it can be done, he proposes to: , Skate 6 hours 15 minutes. Walk from London to Brighton in 17 hours 20 minutes. Cycle 5 hours. Row 10 hours. Motor-cycle 42 minutes. Race in a car 38 minutes. Race in a speed-boat in 75 minutes. Fly 15 minutes. These, roughly, are the times the 50 miles for each sport will take. Flying Officer Bromhall has held the British indoor speed skating championship; has flown in North America and Canada; carried out survey work form the air in Greenland; and has won car and motor-cycle races at Brooklands. But—before he carries out his plans alone —are there any challengers*
