Pro. Golfer Resigns.
S. Wingate, who helped to lay out the Leeds (England) municipal golf course at Templenewsain twelve years ago, and has been professional there ever since, has resigned his post, and left the club at the end of December. ft * «’ * 4138 Runs in a Season. A remarkable record was established in English cluib cricket last setson by L. W. Newman, of Alexandra Park, who scored 4138 runs ia the season in 65 innings. With eight not-outs, his average was 72.59, and he hit J 4 centuries. Newman was given every encouragement by his club to eclipse the record of the late C. H. Titchmarsh, but he never allowed this goal to interfere .with his play. His centuries were usually scored in the time most batsmen' would take to reach 30 or 40. Newman and'C. S. Davies so often made all the runs necessary for Alexandra Park to defeat their opponents that the remaining batsmen in the eleven, worked on a rota, each in turn going in first wicket down and so on. Newman scored 133 in the second innings for the Club ■Cricket Conference against the NeWj Zealand touring team in 1927.
