Visions of a spectacular arrest were conjured up by a resident of Claudelands the other evening, when he barricaded a supposed burglar in a wardrobe and telephoned to the police.. Two constables soon arrived in a motor-car and found the occupant of the house anxiously awaiting them in the front garden. In one of the bedrooms they found a bedstead and other furniture piled against the wardrobe, which had been locked. After removing the barricade the constable braced themselves for action and threw the door open, only to find the wardrobe empty. A search was made of the house, but there was nothing to suggest the presence of an intruder. Questioned by the police the householder admitted that he had seen no burglar, but had heard a creak in the vicinity of the wardrobe, and taking no risks immediately locked the door and barricaded it.
