Fish Flies or Walks When Not Swimming

A fish, that accommodates itself to changing environment, and fiies, swims or walks at will, was caught in Moreton Bay, Queensland, recently. An authority on fish at the Brisbane Museum has identified it as a butterfiy guuard, a member of the Trigliddlc family. The specimen netted in the bay measured four inches. It is a golden-brown colour, with darker markings in a distinct carpet-iiko pattern. Just behind the gills, at the sides, project a pair of fins of peacock blue colour, which serve as both wings and paddies. Leg-like fins on the lower part of the body enable it to walk along tho sea bottom. When pursued by larger fish, the butterfly gunard's wings enable it to skim Lhe surface for a short distance, thus evading capture.

Woiuo pobeeme". were discussing the strength of a notorious character whose chief offences were resisting the police and assaults upon them. They all agreed regarding his great strength, one declaring that he was as strong as a bullock. • “Strong as a bullock bo blowed! ” said an interested listener; “why, me and nine others ’alb knocked the life out of him!"
