Tho Coastguard cutter Itasca sailed to-day, taking a relief personnel for the acrological observation stations on Baker, Jarvis and llowland Islands, under tho direction of Mr W. T. Miller, Chief of Air Navigation and United States Commerce Department. Aboard the cutter are nine Hawaiian youths, who will replace the present personnel; also Lieutenant E. W. Stephens, Navy aerologist, to study the islands ano make observations.
The Itasca will probably visit King man reef and American Samoa for the purpose of determining the valuo of the islands in the way of beacon stations on the proposed Hawaii-New Zealand air route. The Dina Coman expedition, which returned on Tuesday, surveyed and mapped the islands and brought specimeus of soil, animal and floral life in tho schooner lvinkajou.
