Owners’ Offer to English Miners
BASIS OF NEGOTIATION British Official Wireless. RUGBY, Jan. S. Representatives of tho colliery owners met representatives of the Mine Workers’ Federation to-day and placed before them the offers of increases of wages which had been formulated by the owners in various districts.
The men’s representatives reported to their executive committee this evening and a further joint meeting is to take place to-morrow. • The oilers vary from district to district. In about nine areas the suggested advance is Is for adults, while 9d is offered in three others. In three districts an advance of fid is proposed and in two others 5d per shift per adult worker.
The original claim put forward by the men’s union was for an increase of 2s per shift l’or adults and Is for juveniles.

LONDON, Jau. 8.
The miners’ executive scut a deputation to Air Crooksliaiik (Sccretary of Mines) to ascertain whether, in view of the unsatisfactory nature of the owners’ offer, the Government would provide a loan, guarantee, or subsidy, as a temporary expedient to avert a stoppage.
Mr Crookshank replied that the Government was unable to reverse Us former decision not to use public
money
