STRANDED WHALES.—A school of 43 pilot whales, sometimes referred, to as black-fish, or caa-ing whale, were stranded on the beach near Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, on November 29. Pilot whales have the herding instinct and when their leader gets into shallow, water and becomes stranded quite frequently the whole school follows into the same predicament.
