From Our Own Correspondent. Personal. Miss Rena Stuart has returned ’from a holiday spent with her parents at South Featherston. Mr Fred Goss is the guest of Mr Stan Goss. Mr Harry Hanson is spending a short holiday at Masterton. Mr Hector Palmer is the guest of his brother-in-law, Mr R. Thomasen. Mr and Mrs Jack Randall are at present holidaying at New Plymouth, where they are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Gismore. • Mrs and Mr- Williams and their small daughter Barbara, left recently on a motor tour-pf the North Island. Miss Ml Wadsworth'is the guest of Mrs W. E. Welch. Staying with .Mr C. H. Mills, is her brother, Mr Ken Glover. , Mrs R. C. Lyster is holidaying with friends at Masterton. Mr Lionel Dumbleton, of Auckland, is the guest of his parents. Mr Dumbleton is sub-tditor of the Auckland Star. Women’s Institute. The January meeting of the Nirealia Women’s Institute was not very well attended, many members not being present on account of harvesting, etc. Mrs J. P. Petersen occupied the chair. Miss Izabel Spring carried out the secretarial duties, on account of the unavoidable absence of the committee secretary, Mrs N. Williams. Tea hostesses for tho afternoon were- Miss. Eisie Hanson and .Mi's A. Hanson. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: Best meringues,' Miss I. Spring 1, Mrs G, Woodley 2. The roll call, most uses for a lemon, was also won by Miss Spring. Next month’s competitions are: The best display of arranged, native or cut flowers, and the best collection of beans. During the afternoon, Miss Eva Cavanagh, a member of the Hamua Institute, gave a most interesting demonstration of the art of wickerwork. Several articles were made during the afternoon, Miss Cavanagh being accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her able efforts. Institute members have decided not to enter for the potato growing competition this year.

A;i event of considerable local interest took place recently, when the wedding was solemnised in St. Cuthbert’s Church, Eketahuna, of Francis Charles, third son of Mrs and the late Mr T. B. Mason and Mabel, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs A. M. Berry, Eketahuna. Rev. G. Watson, M.A., officiated. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her father, was gowned in embroidered ivory satin with tulle veil and coronet of orange blossoms. Gloves, hat and shoes to match completed a beautiful toilette. She carried a beautiful bouquet of Madonna lilies and maiden hair fern. Miss Evelyn Berry, sister of th© bride, acted as bridesmaid. ‘ She wore a model frock of lupin bluo silk crep© and her bouquet was of pink gladioli, ferns and maiden hair. Mr Arthur Mason, Hukanui, cousin of th© bridegroom, acted as bfest man. The church was decorated for th© occasion by friends of th© contracting parties. A reception was afterwards held at tho Oddfellows’ hall, there being guests from Wellington, Dannevirke, Palmerston North and surrounding districts. The bride’s mother wore it frock of black silk marocain, with black silk coat and hat and gloves to match. A beautiful threetiered wedding cake made by the bride’s mother, and iced by Mrs J. Payne, Rorigokokako, was a feature of the breakfast. Th© customary toasts were honoured and a large number of congratulatory telegrams were read. The newly married couple later left by car for the north, the bride wearing a model frock of fawn silk marocain, with hat, shoes and handbag' en suite. The handbag carried by the brido and th© crystal necklace worn by the bridesmaid were gifts of til© bridegroom. Rifle Shooting. Th© Tararua Rifle Club fired tho first shoot for the Thomasen Cup last Saturday. Conditions for the cup are three shoots, two to count. Shooting conditions for the day were excellent and many good scores resulted. The Nireaha Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club fired the opening shoot of the season on the Tararua range last Saturday. These shoots are tired over a 25 yard range. In accordance with the customary practice there was a competition between teams selected by the president and vicepresident. Following an interesting shoot the president’s -team won by 324 points to 317. The- scores were as follow: Miss M. Sigvertsen (president) 69, Mrs P. Berry 68, Mrs J. -P-i Petersen 67, Miss B. Petersen. 63, Miss-N-. Edwards 56, total 324. . Mrs B. Lozell 69, Mrs K. Thomasen (vice-president) 65, Mrs J. Hawkins 61, Mrs H. C. Rasmussen 61, Mrs R. Farrow 58, total 317.
