Oroua Downs
From Our Own Correspondent. On Tuesday the local school was visited by Mr H. Green, of Kairanga, judging Tor the Manawatu-Oroua Calf Club, who expressed himself pleased with the standard of the calves presented. Great interest. was shown by the children and resi.it nts in the judging, which resulted as lollows: Dairy' type: Joyce Christenson s Daisy t, Key Veale’s Daphne, 2; Ivan Veaio s Venus, 3; Alan Veale's entry, v.h.c.; C’hirley Curran’s entry, h.c. Care and attention: Gordon Waller's entry, 1; Korna Christensen’s, 2; Shirley Curran’s, 3; Joyce Christensen’s, v.h.c.; Alan Veale’s, h.c. The local factory, although the season has been the wettest for some years, is now almost reduced to six vats without topping last year's largest supply for one day. This is attributed to the lack ol substance in iho grass. Though several hot days were experienced over the week-end, rain has again set in with a rapid fall of the barometer. Sonic farmers have experienced difficulty in getting tlie crops in. Ensilage making lias now commenced and it will not be long before the district is dotted with stacks.
