SENT TO SUPREME COURT POE SENTENCE. Before Messrs J. H. Stevens end J. T. Boswortli, J’s.P., 'in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday, Malcolm Ross Kells (alias Edward Gcorgo Gore, alias Bennett), aged 26 years, with no fixed abode, was charged that on or about August 15 last at Palmerston North, he broke and entered by night the dwelling house of William AlcKegg (manager of the Midland brewery) in Cuba Street, and stole a bottle of gin and clothing to the value of £2. . Detective-Sergeant Biclcerdike conducted the case for tho police. The owner of the house affected stated that he had left the place locked before ho had departed for a trip to Christchurch. • On his return he had discovered that the place had been entered through tho wash-house window, which had been broken. Evidenco went to show that tho intruder had been in every room in the residence. Mrs Bishop, a domestic employed next door to the entered house, said that she had awakened about 1.30 a.m. on August 15 last and had seen someone in the house with a torch. Witness had thought at first that it was tho occupiers of the placo but knew later that they had been absent. Constable E. H. Compton, on duty in

the detective branch at Palmerston North, stated that he had interviewed accused, who had made a statement admitting tho offence. Ho had entered another house in the locality but had taken nothing. Witness added that inquiries had been made for tho stolen property but ho had been unable to recover it. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to tho Supremo Court at Wellington for sentence.
