The Manawatu Daily Times Controlling Butter Exports

Australia evidently lias great hopes oi a very definite benefit from the agreement reached with New Zealand a few weeks ago for the regulation of butter exports from the two countries. Stressing the importance of the agreement, the Director of Dairying for New South Wales, Mr. L. T. Mclmi.es, said: “ft will mean bridging of the difference in realisation values that have existed in the past between the sales of Now Zealand and Australia and those of Denmark.”

OfficiaLreports show that for the year ending December 31 last, New Zealand’s butter exports to the United Kingdom were 133,850 tons against Australia’s 105,200 tons, or 28,650 excess in favour of the Dominion, Under the new scheme, it is considered practicable, by regulating shipments and storage at New Zealand and Australian ports, to forward 25,000 tons a month in summer and 15,000 tons a month in winter the whole year round, making a yearly total of 240,000 tons.

How Denmark lias been gradually overhauled in butter exports to the United Kingdom is shown as follows: —

“We arc now offering' to supply distributing- linns their entire requirements,” said Mr. Mclnnes. ’‘When this offer is accepted, if New Zealand and Australia are to give complete satisfaction and not disrupt retail distributors’ organisations, we should be in a position to supply the market fully and uniformly for each day each week, and each month of the year.”
