From Our Oivu Correspondent. Enjoyable Basketball Dance. A successful dance was held under the auspices of the Foxton Basketball Club on Saturday evening. There was a large crowd present and modern and old-time dancing was indulged in. Several novelty dances were held, the winners being as follow: Lucky Gay Gordons, Air G. Hirini and .Miss E. Rountree; mystery train, Air lxais ten and Aliss L. Cliaff'cy; AJontc Carlo, Air C. Castles and Aliss L. Martin, iho duties of AI.C. were carried out by All- A. Anderson and extras for dancing played by Airs AI. A. Ross and Air J. Staff. Supper was handed round bv members of tho club, after which a pleasing ceremony took place when Airs Al. A. Ross (coach), on behalf of the girls of tho club, made presentations to w S iT T t r, ollm - s ’ Jlrs Alounsey and Air W. D. Neville as tokens of appreciation toi the great deal of assistance they had rendered tho club in connection witli its social efforts throughout tho season. Air Ncvillo replied on behalf of tne recipients, thanking the members of tho club lot their kindness, after which musical honours and cheers were accorded the guests of honour. •

A bring and buy stall was conducted by Airs AlcKwen ami transacted good business. Arram-e----ments for the children’s annual Christmas party were discussed and will be linalised at a future meeting. Young Couple Honoured. Miss Klsio flout and Air Bco Bloomfield, a popular and highly esteemed young couple of Poxton, were tendered a complimentary social on Thursday evening, in view of their approaching marriage. ■ Tho evening was happily whiled away with competitions and games, while items were rendered by Aliss D. Pillar, Aliss U. Thomson and Air Cowley, with Afrs J. P. Riches at the piano. The guests of honour were the recipients of numerous gifts from the large crowd present. Tlu: good wishes of those present were extended to the young couple by Air. Bon CUryslall (an old school-mate of both), Air G. Huntley and Rev. O. W. Brown. Air Leo Blomfield replied on behalf of Aliss Rout and himself. School Matters.

At a special meeting of the local district high school committee held on Priday evening for the purpose of considering applications for the position oi janitor, it was unanimously decided to appoint Air B. Knows tub, who will lake up his duties as from November 1.
