FACTS about the BIBLE

Uriah the Priest

When Isaiah was inspired to set down a prophecy concerning Maher-Slialalhash-haz, one of the two “faithful witnesses" called upon to sign the record was “Uriah the priest” (Isa, 8:2). He is referred to again in II Kings 16:10 if., though there his name is spelled “Urijah’ ’ — and we are presented with another, and less “faithful," aspect of his character. On a visit to Damacus, King Ahaz had been impressed by a novel, and probably pagan, altar wMch he discovered there; and, in with the instructions which the king sent to Jerusalem, “Urijah the priest” proceeded to construct a duplicate of this altar, setting- it up within the court of the temple of Yahweh; and later, at the king's command, displacing the famous “brasen altar” (II Kings 13:14) which had stood there since the days of Solomon (I Kings 8:64). (These facts are published daily.)
