Effort for Maori Mission Funds
A cuchro party and dance to assist the Anglican Maori Mission which is very badly in ' need of funds, took place on Friday evening at Kakariki and was favoured by quito a satisfactory attendance. The Maori meeting house presented a bright and festive aspect with its decoration of pink and green streamers and balloons, and the patrons were pleased indeed with their evening’s entertainment. The euchre tables attracted many players and the games were koonly contested. Mrs Te Tomo and Mr Roach (Marton) carried off tho first prizes, Mrs B. Penny and Mr T. Bewai tho second, and Mrs T. Graham (Aorangi) and Mrs Searanelie tho consolation. Whilst their elders played cards tho young people spent a very jolly time in dancing, and novelty numbers added interest to a programme that appealed to all. The musicians were a popular couple from Aorangi and extras were contributed by Mrs T. Stevens, of Feilding. Mr T. Bewai carried out the duties of M.C. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr A. Bailey and his partner, Mr Bailey again beiug successful in the mystery dance iu which he was partnered by Mrs Graham. Tho committee assisted with tho supper by providing many home-made dainties which were much appreciated. In the course of proceedings Rev. Mr Leonard thanked tho patrons for their support and stated that another such function in aid of the same very deserving cause would bo held next Friday evening at Kakariki, and it was hoped that several more would take place during the next few weeks. Thoso responsible for tho success of the endeavour were Mrs Te Tomo, Mr and Mrs Mason Durie, Mrs J. Hakaraiu, Mrs I’. Seranache, Rev. Leonard and Messrs G. Bovan, Bauhiki, B. Penny and T. Poutama.
