Train Hits Van
MIRACULOUS ESCAPE OP OCCUPANTS
ACCIDENT AT ROSLYN ROAD CROSSING
A miraculous escape from death was experienced by two Levin men, Messrs Robert Andt-v ~n and J. Corrigan, when the van in which they were riding, was struck by the south-bound Napier express at the Roslyn Road level crossing shortly before 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon.
It is not yet known who was driving the van, which was a new one recently purchased by the Levin District Co-operative Society, but after delivering bread ,in Roslyn Road it proceeded to negotiate the crossing on to the main highway when it was'sruck .u the right hand side by the train. Nearby residents heard the crash and rushed to the scene of the accident. Medi cal aid was summoned and it was found that as far as was known Mr Corrigan had received a broken collar-bone and abrasions, while Mr Anderson escaped injury. Both are suffering from shock. The van was practically smashed to matchwood.
The accident delayed the train about twenty minutes.
