From Our Own Correspondent. A farewell evening was held on Wednesday when a largo gathering of members of the Women’s Institute and ping pong club assembled to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. G. Clarke and family who are leaving the district to reside in Marton. The first part of the evening’s programme was taken up by competitions and music. Competitions were won by Mesdames Petersen, L. Meads and Mayhew and Messrs J. England, C. Palmer and Sherwlli. A delightful playreading was given by three members of the W.I. play reading circle, Mrs J. H. Williamson, Mrs Petersen and Miss Jean Johnson. Mrs J. H. Williamson , president of the W. 1., presented Mr and Mrs Clarke with a- tea-set and crystal vase. Mr Brian Shannon, president of the ping pong club, thanked Mr Clarke for the help he had given to a large number of the social functions by his show card and sign writing. Mr Clarke responded and thanked their many friends. Mrs Clarke, who was secretary of the local branch of the W. 1., said that she was pleased to hear that the work she ’had done was appreciated and wished the local W.I. every success In the future.
