Annual Meeting of ' Manawatu Centre ; ARRANGEMENTS FOR , FIXTURES THIS SEASON > The annual meeting of tho Manawatu 1 Bowling Centre was held yesterday 1 afternoon, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., pre--1 siding. Club delegates present were ’ Messrs D. Christie (Foxtou), W. Hunter and H. Christmas (Manawatu), P. S. 1 Larcomb and P. C, Bryan (Northern), C. Hausmann and C. B. Aitken (Oroua), C. H. Ilodd and A. Gregory (Pa-hiat.ua), W. H. Bo vis (Shannon), J. J. O’Shea and J. Davidson (Terrace End), A. Just and A. Cooksley (Takaro), H. P. Horne and E. Bly (Woodville), J. M. Croueker (Bulls), J. I\. Patou and C. L. Mowlem (Palmerston North), J. Bartholomew and J. E. Barltrop (Peilding) and G. N. Stephenson (Levin). Apologies for absence were tendered on behalf of Messrs N. H. Nash. (Palmerston North) and C. M. Sargisson (Peilding). In moving the adoption of tho annual report, as already published, the chairman said lie felt the balance-sheet must be regarded as satisfactory. During the season the centre had had visits from tho Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and South Aucklanu Centres, and there was no question that such visits were of great help to bowling, j.t, was unfortunate that the pairs tournament had to bo abandoned because of wet weather. The Easter tournament ba.d been a. great success and ho congratulated the winners, as he also did the winners of t.hc various champion or champion contests. In regard to the latter there was a. need for the clubs finding their champions earlier, and he suggested that the centre should give consideration to making it compulsory l'or tho representatives of the various clubs to possess a certificate from their : club to the effect that they were its champions. lie congratulated the North- ' ern Club on providing another green and said it would be handy to the ’ centre for future tournaments. 1 Mr. Nash thanked the executive and ’ the secretary for the work that they ■ had dono for bowling during the year. 1 LLe thought some ennsiiier-il-imi

In regard to the Wellington i- Centre’s visit, the suggestion had been a put forward that this should take place e on November 26, but, due to the genrj oral election, it might not be possible to finalise the date for some time yet. _ In his report tho auditor (Mr. W. Hunter) drew attention to the need for conserving the centre’s finances, and suggested certain eeouomies in regard to the Easter and New Year tournaments, chiefly relating to refreshments. Mr. Paten suggested that in future £ the expenses and receipts in connection with the Easter and New Year tournaments should be shown in separate statements in the balance-sheet. Mr. Baitholomow said the balance- . sheet reflected credit on the executive and secretary, to whoso careful manI agement he paid a tribute. Every effort had been ma-do to popularise the tournaments, said Mr. Nash, and it was lor the meeting to say. whether it would curtail the expenditure, which action might be injurious, to the tournaments. The desirability of these matches being played earlier was stressed by Mr. Mowlem, Mr. Davidson suggested that hue centre should write to the clubs asking them to get their singles championships under way by the third week m February. Mr. Ohshea said tho Terrace End Club had a rule that its champions should bo selected. Mr. Hunter pointed out that the Manawatu Club selected its champions, but they were subject to challenge and could be dethroned. Following further comment, if was decided that the clubs should be advised that their representatives in tho champion of champions contests would have to be provided with a. certificate to the effect that they were authorised to represent their club as its champions. ..... .. It was decided that the veterans' competition should again be held this j year, the conditions being four games (on wins) of seven heads. A visit to Auckland and Houth Auckland centres was decided on, the trip to.be of not less than three days' duration. In regdrd fro. the pennants competition, the Takaro and Manawatu delegates reported-that their clubs could not participate. It was decided that
