Final Curtain Rung Down on “ Sally ”

AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY’S OUTSTANDING- SUCCESS Concluding an outstandingly successful season of fivo nights, "Sally,” the' Palmerston North Operatic and Dramatic Society’s production foV 1935, was played before a capacity houso on Saturday. Unstinted applauso punctuated tho performance, fitting recognition of- the clever work of all members of tho cast. That there is no lack of talent in the society’s ranks, was made amply evident, with tho assurance that tho next production will bo eagerly awaited. . Behind tho work of tho players could bo seen tho capable direction of tho producers, Messrs Harrison Cook and Fred Cousins, to whom, no less than to tho principals, is credit duo for tho success that has attended the production. At tho conclusion of the final number there was a remarkable scene, several hundred floral and other tributes being handed to the assembled members of tho cast. Distribution of them took ten

minutes. Addressing tho audience, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., president of tho society'-, returned thanks for the patronago extended to “Sally” during tho week, saying that, for the last three nights tho Opera Houso had been packed. Ho also thanked tho honorary members, who were taking a keen interest in tho society. They numbered 120 at present, and it was hoped that tho total would reach 200 by next year. The socioty was fortunate in having no less than 86 active members, assuring no lack of talent when a show was presented. The 2>ast week had provided ono of the greatest successes tho society had had, and next year’s production, which had not yet been decided on, should be equally popular. Mr Nash also thanked the producers, the orchestra and tho players, and said it was bovious that they had enjoyed themselves. Already they were asking when were they going to have another production.
