Interesting Comments Speaking at the meeting of the Manawatu Women's Club on i’riday, Miss Wilkins, Massey College, said that there was a tremendous danger in suddenly “dropping oil" clothes and sun-bathing. The sudden heat on the back was liable to damage the spine and cause various illnesses. She had nothing against sun-bathing, but it was important that clothes should bo left oil gradually. Referring to the uudisl. cult, Miss Wilkins said that people thought it ■was a, most terrible thing, but that was because they looked a t it in. the wrong light. They looked at it from amoral point of view, and it was simply when there was only a part covering of the body that immoral things were suggested. People should give the subject proper thought before condemning it. Slimming was a dangerous thing, said the speaker, and it was especially risky for young girls. It was often found that girls of about 1(5 or 17 years would not eat what they should, because they were afraid of ‘ ‘getting fat.” This was cpiito wrong, because the girls needed the food, as they were still growing, and if they did not have the food when their bodies needed it in order to develop, their bodies would not. develop afterwards. Tliero had been eases when girls had become very ill through slimming.
