Ante-Natal Dangers
ADDRESS BY NOTED AUTHORITY Per Press Association. STRATFORD, Last Night. There was a largo attendance of Taranaki doctors at Stratford to hear an address by Dr. Bright Bannister on the cause and treatment of toxaemias associated with approaching motherhood. He said the condition was a frequent complication of maternity conditions in tho Dominion, and ho expressed the opinion that the large meat consumption of tho average New Zealand woman was one of several factors causing the increase in danger. He emphasised that it was imperative that expectant mothers should meticulously follow the advice of doctors, especially in regard to dietetic treatment. Dr. Bannister stated that this complication of motherhood was causing more maternal deaths in tho Dominion yearly than puerperal sepsis, which was a complication more dreaded by most women. Dr. Bannister added that the toxaemia disorder could largely be avoided by adequate ante-natal caie and patients’ obedience.
