INTENDS TO PUI/FID PROMISE. “I have promised my electors I would stand long before Mr. Hornblow expressed anything in the way of intentions, and I am going to keep my promise. ’ ’ This was the reply given by Mr. J. Linklatcr, M.l\, to a “Times” reporter last evening when asked if he was prepared to carry out the suggestion of Mr. J. Iv. Hornblow, of Poston, thai their names should t go to a ballot for selection as the National Government candidate.

Mr. Linklater added that lie was having a meeting rtf his supporters at Rongotea next Saturday night and would place the full facts before them.

Christchurch Liberals Hive off From Government ANOTHER NEW PARTY FORMED pvr Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A division has occurred in the National Political Federation in Christchurch and it is likely that a new Liberal party will be formed. A large number of members of the United party held a meeting in the city last evening and passed the following resolution: — “As there is undoubtedly a large body of electors in the Dominion who are anxious to avoid the extreme views cf the Reform party on the one hand and the Labour party on the other and would gladly welcome an opportunity to associate themselves with a moderate Liberal policy those present form themselves into a committee to set up a Liberal party in this city.”

It is stated that the decision to form a new party was reached after a very great deal of consideration and that those behind the movement arc working in conjunction with people in the Noith Island.

A further meeting will be held on Friday evening next when a permanent executive will be set up. It has aliead\ been announced that the new party will contost some of the seats in the city.
