From Our Own Correspondent. Golf. In a match, Herrington v. Otaki, the local ladies’ golf team was defeated by live games to threo ill the final round of the Takapau cup, which was played on Wednesday afternoon. The detailed results were as ' follow, Fox Lon players being mentioned first: Mrs .Tagger lost to Mrs Gannway; Miss N. Robinson beat Miss Mclntosh; Mrs Robbie lost to Mrs Anderson; Miss Thompson lost to Mrs Harper; Miss A. Noylon beat Miss Harper; Miss Burlier lost to Mrs Benge; Miss Woods beat Miss Swainson; Mrs Austin lost to Mrs Thornton. Tho following are the results of the inier-elub games which were played: Miss Spoil's lost to Miss Lethbridge, Miss Bowo lost to Hr Atmore, Mrs .Smith lost to Miss Simcox, Mrs Bryant beat Mrs Bishop. Congregational Meeting. Rev. A. Fotherlngham presided over a congregational meeting of tiio local Presbyterian Cluirch, which was held for tho purpose of discussing arrangements for suitably celebrating tho Doth anniversary of the first church service held in Poxton by lato Rev. James Buncan. The lirst service was held in October, 1545. After the matter had been discussed, it was decided to hold a special service on Sunday, October 27, whlcli will be conducted by Professor Dickie, Moderator of tho Presbyterian Church of New .Boaland. The morning service will be for the young people, to which Scout organisations will he On the following Thursday a banquet will bo held in tlie Masonic hall, tho principal speaker to bo Rev. J. R. Blanchard, of St. John’s Church, Wellington. A committee, including the ladies’ guild, was set up to arrange details in connection with tho celebrations. * Social Guild. There was an excellent attendance at the monthly social afternoon of the Ah Saints’ Ladies' Social Guild on Tuesday afternoon. A number of visitors wera present from Oroua Downs, and a thoroughly happy time was spent by all present. An apology for absence was received from the vicar, Rev. 11. S. Kenney. A discussion ensued regarding the proposed nealth campaign and Mrs C. H. Symons was appointed as delegate to represent tho guild at meetings in this connection. An interesting programme had been arranged by tho hostesses, and Included vocal items by Mrs PI. A. Plannay, "My Prayer” and ‘’Because’’ and by Mrs. W. M. Thomas, "Mother of Pearl" and "To a Miniature.” Tho accompaniments were played by Miss N. Woods. Conipetitiolis were won by Mrs H. A. llannay and Miss L. Robinson. A bring and buy stall in tlio charge of Miss E.' Thomas, transacted brisk business throughout tho afternoon. Tho serving of afternoon tea by tho hostesses, Mesdames H. A. Hannay, K. Robinson, I<\ Procter, W. M. Thomas, W. Bowden, E. Popple, W. Leo and Misses Leo and N. Woods, brought a pleasant social function to a close. Oddfellows Meet. N.G. Bro. C. H. Morgan, presided over tho monthly meeting of the Loyal P'oxton Lodge which was held on Tuesday evening. Four new members were initiated into tlio order. At tho conclusion of business tho members entertained a few friends tit a social evening. Supper was handed round, and community singing and dancing were indulged in until a late hour. Personal. Mr J. McKenzie, relieving officer for tho Palmerston North, district, is at present relieving Mr L. M. Say well, ol the local Post and Telegraph staff. Mrs T. R. Pope, of Christchurch, Is at present a visitor to Foxton, and is the guest of Mr and Mrs D. R. Ogilvy, ot Purcell street. Tho local friends of Mr W. Petrie, chief Government hemp grader, and exP'oxton resident, will regret to learn that ho met with a serious accident in Wellington on Saturday afternoon. While crossing a street near his oflice. Mr Petrie was knocked down by a ear and sustained severe injuries to his chest, head and legs. IBs condition is still serious.
