Bro. N, Gr. Scales presided over the fortnightly meeting, held on Triday evening in tho lodge room, Church street. As it was quarter night, there was an even larger attendance than usual, and it was remarked that it was gratifying to see the attendance keeping up so well. There were many visitors present, who attended to see the ritual competition, including visitors fromKopano andEongatea lodges. It was reported that Bros. Dalton, Marshall, Jennings, E. S. Stewart, Trew and Baldwin arc still on tho sick list.
It was decided that Orient and the sister lodge, Hinekoa Ecbecca Lodge, should hold a combined semi-public installation ceremony on October 25.
An invitation was received from Eangiotu lodge to be present at its installation ceremony, and many members as possible will attend. The transfer was accepted of Bro. A. W. Newman, from Queen Charlotte Lodge.
Bro. E. Hopwood, reporting on the meeting of the Triendiy Societies’ Council, said that Bro. Buchanan, of Oroua Lodge, had been elected vicepresident of the council. The resignation of Vice-Bro. Barrow had been accepted with regret. Tho council asked for the use of Orient’s carpet bowls, for the Labour Day tournament, and this was granted.
Members are to meet outside Ail Saints’ Church at 2.15 p.m. on the occasion of tho diamond jubilee. There will be a church parade, but regalia will not bo worn. Installation dates are: Eangiotu, October 7; Teilding, October 8; Bulls, October 10; Eongotca, -October 15; Taibape, October 22; Orient, October 25; Levin, October 29. The ritual competition took place after tbe meeting, the brothers acquitting themselves very well.
