Gardening Circle Enjoys Afternoon at “Waimarama”
Members of tho gardening circle and executive of tho Palmerston North Townswomen's-Guild had a vory dolightful experience yesterday afternoon, when they were the guests of Mrs. T. R. Aloore at “Waimarama,” Terraco End. The day being beautifully lino the visitors, numbering over GO, were enabled to wander round the well-planned grounds and enjoy the flno flowering shrubs, native trees and gay garden beds in a setting of sweeping green lawn. A weeping Japanese cherry in full bloom was a joy to behold and there wero magnolias and many flowering shrubs to give colour with narcissi, polyanthus and grape hyacinths, making 1 heir contribution to a colourful scene. Turning round a mamalcu flanking the entrance to the residence was a clematis, its starry flower in full bloom turning towards tho sun. Delicious afternoon tea was served in tho dining and billiard rooms, after which Air. J. H. St evens, who was introduced by Airs. A. E. Alansford, gave a most interesting talk on “Native Trees,” and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Airs. Alansford.
On behalf of the gardening circle, Mrs. Alansford, president of the guild, asked AITs. Moore's acceptance of a beautiful spray of tho real Parma violets, a posy of violets being also handed to Airs. Stevens and a buttonhole to Air. Stevens. Airs. Alansford also thanked Airs. Aloore for her gracious hospitality, Airs. Woodroofe adding thanks on behalf of the circle to Airs. Aloore and also to Air. Stevens.
