UNPRECEDENTED INTEREST IN ANNUAL MEETING

The annual general meeting of the Eangitikei Racing Club, held in Bull's on Monday evening, was tho most eventful ono in tho long ihistory of the

club, Mr J. H. Perrett presiding over a Tecord attendance. Owing to tho unusually large list of candidates for the committee vacancies and tho necessity for an election to fill tho vacancy caused by tho death of Mr .Tamos P. McKelvie, tho voting was also particularly heavy and involved the secretary in much work. The voting for the presidency resulted in the return of Mr E. D. Me-' Kelvie, who was subsequently Congratulated upon his election prior to taking the chair. Other officers were elected as follow:—Vice-presidents, Messrs J. H. Perrett, F. O. Bailey, J. E. Walker and K. W. Dairymple; committee (11 candidates for five vacancies), Messrs K. McK. Duncan, A. N. Amon, Q. 0. Wilson, J. J. Mansell and B. J. Freeklington; treasurer, Mr J. H. Archer; auditor, Mr A. J. B. Sieely. The annual report was as follows: ‘‘ln presenting tho annual statement of accounts your committee has pleasure ia congratulating members on the improved position as disclosed in the balance-sheet. After allowing tho sum of £192 19s Id for depreciation the balance-sheet shows a profit of £270 Is 3d. The overdraft has been reduced by £333. Careful administration Is necessary in the futuro if this improvement is to be maintained. The farm shows a profit of £243 7s 3d, an increase of £33 10s 3d. This is a splendid result, and onr hearty thanks arc due to tho farm committee, Messrs J. Tricker and D. W. Wilson. Wo deeply regret having to record tho death of our late president, Mr J. F. McKelvie, who had been a member of the club for 44 years, a steward for 39 years, and had capably filled tho positions of timekeeper and judge. He was made a vice-president and life member in 1913 and president in 1917—a splendid record of service to the club. Wo also regret to record the death of ono of our esteemed vice-presidents, the late Mr J. H. Whiskr, who, had been a member for 30 years, a steward for 2(3 years, and who was mado a vice-pre-sident last year. Although he had been in bad health tho greater portion of this time, ho rendered very valuable service as chairman of tho course and farm committee, in which he took a very keen interest. Wo have also to record the death of Mr W. Carter and Mrs T. F. Kiehardson. Mr Carter was a good supporter of tho club and Mrs Eichardson ono of our oldest settlers and widow of our lata esteemed vicepresident, Mr T. F. Eichardson. We deeply regret the passing of these valued members. Our hearty thanks am again duo to Mr S. E. Hammond for his good work at honorary clerk of scales; to Mr Alan Seymour, lion, veterinary practitioner, and to tho Marton Division of St. John Ambulance for its assistance on race days.'’
