A suggestion that local bodies, chambers of commerce, or other organisations which granted money for the promotion ’of tourist traffic should uso SO per cent of it for the development of travel within New Zealand by New Zealanders arid visitors and should allocate 20 per cent, for overseas publicity, was made by Mr. L. J. Schmitt, general manager of tho Department of Industries and Commerce, Tourist and Publicity, in an address in Wellington. A reminder that August is “bird month” is issued by the Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand. For some years the society has endeavoured to create a special measure of public interest in the welfare of birds during this month, which represents the winter season's lowest ebb of natural supplies. The society has issued a bulletin, urging householders in town and country to l’acd and encourago birds.
