HAIL SQUALLS ON SUNDAY NIGHT.

The break on Sunday .in the stormy weather conditions experienced in Foilding did not last very long and although tho town escaped the storms that skirted the residential quarter early ou Sunday evening, night saw the storm lash tho town in all its fury. Intermittent rain squalls wore followed by particularly heavy hail squalls with tho wind blowing half a gale and throughout the night these storm conditions wero experienced generally.

Local streams and the Oroua river quickly registered the effects of the heavy downpours and yesterday afternoon tho flood waters were once again over Awahuri road owing to tho overflowing of the Mangaone stream. Heavy hail and rain squalls were again experienced aud the countryside has never been so waterlogged. District farmers report that they have never seen the creeks and streams so full and tho almost continuous rain together with the cold, bleak winds is having a serious effect on. the lambing and losses are expected to bo fairly heavy. Already the weather has been responsible for many casualties among the early lambs and the outlook is far from promising since it is almost impossible to provide dry or sheltered country for tho ewes.

The rainfall in Feilding for tho 2,4 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday was .33 inches, making a, total for the month of 4.3-1 inches.
