COLLEGE STREET SCHOOL BALL

Colourful Function

Under tho canopy of tho Charity Ball decorations, tho annual iancy dress ball of College Street School held in the A. and P. halls last evening, was a colourful function. The attendance was most gratifying and there was evidence on every hand of parents having gone to considerable trouble in providing fanev costumes and dresses for tho children. Col. J. H. Whyte, as chairman of the school committee, thanked the parents for their valuable contribution to the success of the function and expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present as guests. Without this outside assistance the committee would not be able to carry out its work on behalf of the welfare of tlife children ns capitation was insufficient to cover even the amount required to keep the children warm in school during the -winter months. He had special thanks for Mesdames Mans ford and Huntington, through whose efforts the Charity Ball decorations had been, retained for the school function. Then much credit was duo (he headmaster (Mr. W. A. Swinbourn) and staff for tho splendid training given the, pupils. Without the staff ’s co-operation, tho function woubt hardly have been a success. Then there was the ladies’ committee with Airs. Bale at its head, which had --borne the brunt of the work. To them thanks were also due. Col Whyte also thanked Andrew's and Son for loan of furnishings and parents and friends who had made donations to the supper.
