The principal North Island sales of the past week arc reviewed: — Tat Cattle. Entries light, quality good and prices moved upward. Westfield reports a very short offering of only -150 head, (700 last week) shortage caused a sharp advance of 10s to 20s per head on bullocks and about'2s 100 on female cattle. Best bullocks made £lO, £ll 2s (id (it is obvious that the weights were not heavy). The supply of calves was far below requirements, and the greater part of the offering consisted of “bobby” and less than one month old calves. The fe .' heavy vealers in the market were keenly competed for, and the exceptional figure of 85s was obtained in 2 cases for genuine heavy vealers. Bobby calves sold for as much as Ss, and those suitable for the butcher's trade reached 30s. Runners made 15s to 07s Gd; vealers, 2(is to 85s; and bobby calves, 2s to Ss.

At Stortford Lodge, the entry was smaller than the previous week's and the quality was good. Ox beef sold irm at late rates. Cows and heifers advanced at opening of sale, but at conclusion had reverted to late rates. Bullocks: Med. to prime, £8 12s (id to £lO ISs. Cows: Med. to prime, £5 5s to £(i ss. Heifers: Med. to prime, £5 10s to £7 15s.
