Missing Woman Found Dead on River Bank

IDENTIFIED AS MRS. F. A. BARRETT After being reported missing for the past 40 clays, Mrs. FMlomena Agatha Barrett, aged 54 years, of Lower Hutt, was found dead on the eastern bank of the Maaawatu river in the vicinity of Lcnghurn just before midday yesterday. She had last been seen alive m the. Square, Palmerston North, on June 15, having been on a visit then to her sister, Mrs. Kyle, at Aokaut-ere. The body was identified subsequently by deceased’s brother, a resident of Palmerston North.

Strange to say, the body was discovered by a farmer, who, some years ago, also found the body of a missing man on a point on the opposite beach to where he located the late Mrs. Barrett yesterdav.

The body, washed up on a shingle stretch a chain or more from the river, had apparently beim brought down in the last fresh, there being a flood about a week ago.

On tho left hand were found a gold ring and an engagement ring, these assisting considerably in the identification made by deceased’s brother subsequently. Constables A. Ward and H. Barrett were dispatched from the city police station immediately the discovery war reported and deceased was brougnt to Palmerston North..
