Front Our Own Correspondent. Tlie fortnightly euchre and dance was held on Thursday evening, when there was a much larger attendance then usual and everyone spent a very pleasant evening. The ladies’ first prize was won by Mrs Trask and the second went to Mrs Wild. Tlie first prize in the men’s section was won by Mr Scrimshaw and lhe second by 3lr Trask. The iced cake which was kindly donated by Mrs E. W. Collins, was won by Mr C. Morris. Music for dancing was supplied by a professional orchestra and was kept merrily going until after midnight. Tho friends of Mrs A. McCulloch will lie pleased to learn that she is slowly recovering after her recent illness. Mr and -Mrs J. Cheetham are spending tlio week-end at Para para unm beach and are then going on to Wellington for a week. Mr and Mrs Dealh, of Elthain, arc the guests of Mr and -Mrs S. Death, ot lCauwhata. -Mr and Mrs Scarle Lord, of l’atca, have returned home after spending a short holiday with 31rs W. Pcnbertty, of -Uilson’s line. Tho committee ot tlie Newbury Women’s Institute held a meeting last Wednesday afternoon, Airs Shaw presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Linklater, McCulloch, Chcetliam, and Miss 31. Linklater. All arrangements in connection with sending tlie delegate to the annual conference, to be held in Auckland this month, were finalised. .Mrs Simpson kindly ottered to donate the prizes tor tlie next monthly meeting for the competition. After other business had been dealt with tlie meeting was brought to a close with a ch’oery cup of tea which was kindly provided by Mrs Death, assisted by Mrs Payne, and was very much enjoyed by tlie members.
